The President of the Portuguese Republic and the Secretary of State for Sport, mark the Countdown to the World Gymnaestrada 2027 in Lisbon
In One Year, the World Gymnaestrada 2027 will bring together around 25,000 participants from more than 50 countries across all continents, transforming the Portuguese capital into a global stage for sport, culture and intergenerational connection.
Lisbon has officially begun the countdown to hosting the world’s largest gymnastics event. From 11 to 17 July 2027, the Portuguese capital will host the World Gymnaestrada, the world’s largest non-competitive single-sportevent. Bringing together several thousands of participants, including gymnasts, coaches, technical staff and volunteers, it will be a week dedicated to sport, culture, entertainment and international celebration.
Under the motto “Connecting the World”, the World Gymnaestrada 2027, promises to transform Lisbon into a major meeting point for cultures, generations and communities. Over seven days, the city will host performances, ceremonies, group displays and opportunities for cultural exchange, bringing together participants, families and visitors from across the globe. It is a worldwide celebration of gymnastics as a collective, inclusive and creative form of expression. With no rankings, medals or winners, the event places participation, diversity, cooperation and the power of movement to bring people together at its very heart.
The event will also showcase Lisbon as a destination capable of hosting major international events, engaging sports venues, public spaces, cultural facilities, hotels, restaurants, transport networks and a wide range of services.
The President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro, said: “The World Gymnaestrada Lisbon 2027 will be a great celebration of gymnastics, but also of the values that best unite people: inclusion, friendship, diversity, respect and cooperation.” He added: “One year before this unique gathering, Portugal is preparing to welcome thousands of participants from around fifty countries, demonstrating to the world its ability to host, connect and inspire people of all ages and cultures.”
